Our Story
Dense and Delicious was born out of the desire to bring to people delicious and truly healthy treats that will not only satisfy the taste buds, but will also show that baked goods are not all just flour, sugar and vegetable oils.
My love and obsession with clean, real ingredients dates back over 15 years, when I decided to change my diet and lifestyle and dedicate myself to learning everything I could about health and wellness. This obsession has never left me for even a second to this day.
Instead, it led me to become an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach in 2015, as well as working in some of the biggest health food stores in London, and exposed me to the never-ending range of new so-called health products, supplements, herbals, and superfoods. But whilst in those years I would eat a chia pudding daily with a side of nut milk cappuccino, these days I have come to realise that those were not real ingredients. Nut milks don’t exist in nature; as such, I only use real unhomogenised milk or coconut milk. I also do not use any plant-based, man-made, chemical “butter”, “egg” or “cheese”.
In fact, the only eggs I know come from birds, and dairy comes from ruminant animals such as cows, goats and sheep.
I do not use synthetic powders, such as protein powders, collagen, superfood powders, soy byproducts, or hyped up superfoods such as chia and hemp.
I love animal products, so unless a product is naturally dairy-free or egg-free, and therefore vegan, I do not change recipes to suit a strict vegan diet only.
I do not subscribe to any particular label, which is why I always write the full list of ingredients in the description of each product so as not to confuse anyone.
Things like eggs, butter, maple syrup, pure cacao, real dark chocolate, rapadura sugar, nuts, buckwheat, spelt, clean dry fruits without seed oil or sulphites, are all things I love to use and source only the very best I can lay my hands on. Some will be organic, some won’t. As I find that the organic label can sometimes be a hit and miss, as for example when it comes to maple syrup, Medjool dates, raw honey and tahini. The non-organic traditional version of these ingredients will often be superior to the organic one.
Lastly, I am not a chef, nor a recipe creator; I simply enjoy baking and making healthy treats. I have always been drawn to it and love spending time in the kitchen, where I can process my thoughts and create something delicious for others. The recipes I use are a blend of tradition and modern baking. Thus, I take inspiration from blogs all over the internet as well as books and from Piedmont, Italy, where I grew up, and where my love for local, pure and traditional ingredients was born.
